When a new product has been designed and is ready to go into production, suppliers must be first be selected. This is achieved by assessing the future supply chain implications for different supplier combinations using the Supply Chain Mod le Builder (SCMB) tool developed in task 2.5.1. The next thing to be decided is the manufacturing/process technology that will be used to make the product. Process technology selection is carried out using the Method for Cost Effective Production methodology (METAFER) developed in task 2.5.4. Once this is sorted out, the optimal factory layout and logistics control approaches can be determined by internal logistics flow simulation. Finally the performance of the future supply chain for the new product can only by done with a supply chain simulation, using again the SCMB. This website is created for the VIVACE project task 2.5.2. It is aimed mainly at informing VIVACE partners and others about the work achieved in VIVACE Work Package (WP) 2.5: Supply Chain Manufacturing Workflow Simulation for the E-business supported supply chain in the aerospace industry. This work is divided into four parts, corresponding to the four tasks in WP2.5, namely
The main objective of WP2.5 is to develop and demonstrate new concepts to design, model and simulate the workflow in an extended enterprise supply chain, including both the manufacturing and aftermarket aspects. To ensure the integrity and performance of the supply chain, the work package develops, establishs and tests techniques and methods to evaluate and optimise different logistic concepts and their effect, at the company level as well as in the supply chain. The major result of this work package will be use case studies (the results on this website have been altered for confidentiality) that demonstrate the developed models and include definitions of new best product development practice with regards to supply chain manufacturing workflow.
The following diagram illustrates the supply chain manufacturing workflow process. The four key components of this process flow are supply chain, information flow, company internal logistics and manufacturing/process engineering which are covered by Tasks 2.5.1, 2.5.2, 2.5.3 and 2.5.4 respectively.
