Since process chain selection at the design stage will have a profound effect on manufacturing workflow and the wider supply chain, this has been chosen as one of the main areas of work in VIVACE WP2.5. The emphasis is on planning of manufacturing workflow and process chain during the product development phase, specifically: the interdependencies between consecutive manufacturing steps during the workflow planning phase, aiming to reduce manufacturing costs.
Innovation. An new integrated approach METAFER has been developed which involves product development planning departments in the whole process of process chain definition and selection. The systematic selection process follows four main steps. First an AS-IS analysis of present practice of process chain selection at MTU. This is followed by the identification of MTU and project requirements and objective. Next an evaluation framework is defined. Lastly, software tools are selected and evaluated against the defined requirements and objectives.
The following diagram illustrates these steps.
